My car smokes when I first start it. What could the smoke be from?
If the color is blue or blue/black, it could be that oil is being burned along with the fuel. The causes could be worn piston rings or oil viscosity that is too low. The numbers indicate the viscosity. Like 10w-30.
If the cloud is black, excess fuel is being burned.
A white cloud could be the moisture in the cold engine and exhaust system that is being burned off. A lot of white smoke that continues for a long time, may show you have an internal coolant leak.
